Unexpected Series

Alex’s Surprise
Alex wanted a night of hot passion with Gerome, but he gets more than he ever bargained for. His life will be changed forever in a world where he’ll be thrown in jail— or worse— for being pregnant.
Alex’s best friend, Sam, has been acting strange ever since he met Alex’s one-night stand, but now Alex needs help in order to hide, and Sam is his only hope.
Saving Alex
Not only is Alex pregnant, something punishable by jail time, but Gerome, the father of the baby, is a vampire prince. When strangers invade Alex’s home and kidnap him, he doesn’t know who is responsible, if he’ll ever see the man he loves again, or even get to see the child growing inside him.
Considering himself the father of his lover’s child, Sam has a hard time standing around and letting others plan Alex’s rescue. But when the Prince and his trackers find an important clue, the race to save his beloved is on. Now all he can do is cross his fingers that the scheme they’ve devised will work.
When Prince Gerome receives ransom demands, the instructions are clear: mate a complete stranger or he’ll never see Alex or the child he carries again. Will he be able to convince his newly intended to help, or will those seeking to dethrone his family win this evil game of blackmail?
Mate Me, Hate Me, Date Me, Love Me
When his father, King Harold, forces Prince Gerome to mate a complete stranger in order to save his unborn child, he complies with a heavy heart and says goodbye to all his dreams of finding love. Gerome’s hurt and treats his mate the way he’s been taught all his life: through power and submission. But with Luis, it doesn’t work.
When Luis is mated off to a stranger, his world ends. He was a carefree student one day and the next a vampire prince demands his submission. He can’t run, but he can hide and hate in silence. So he withdraws until only a shell remains.
Neither of the men has any chance of finding love together until a friend intervenes. Can Gerome forget what he’s been taught all his life, and is it possible for Luis to forget what’s happened to him? Will they ever find their own happy ending? And can love blossom where only hate exists?

Guest Post: The King and the Queen

King Harold is a hard king with quite a soft heart. He’s one of the most misunderstood characters in the series. He’d do everything to protect his coven, but he sometimes is too set in his beliefs. Born into a world where no love exists, he never learned to value his mate or his children. He even threatens to kill Alex and his own grandchild, even though that’s just an empty line. He couldn’t do that.
But he doesn’t love anyone. While he likes the Queen enough, he owned her. He never showed her love. Neither of them knew it could be different, until the day Gerome and the Queen challenge him.

The Queen herself never had a chance to stand up against her husband, until the moment Gerome brings her children back to the palace to face the King. Then she actually shows her backbone. No one except Gerome believes she has it in herself to stand up against the King, but it’s her support that changes the law.

Through her, they bring the world as they’d known it to fall, and to become something better and greater. A world where love is possible. A world where you can mate the person you love.

The King, though he grumbles about it, has to admit it’s not all bad once he sees the world doesn’t come to an end. And the Queen? She moves out and forces her husband to work for her. She has no intention to leave him, but she wants love and respect, not power.

Blog Tour and Guest post -Guitars and Choices by Layla Dorine

Guitars and Choices Blurb
Asher Logan has been a lot of things: runaway, guitarist, cage fighter, cowboy, but the one thing he’s always avoided was being a father to his young son. Now faced with returning to his families ranch, he’s forced to deal with the knowledge that the move would put him right down the road from Shawn. Still, it’s better than staying in the city, with drunken, bitter older brother Cole, whose anger and prejudices have made him difficult to be around.
Add in the fact that Asher’s new boyfriend, Conner, is eager to make the move with him, and there’s little argument that he can make against it. But returning home means facing demons, and the barn he’s avoided since the day his father caught him and his first love together in the hay. Speaking of his father, when the old man finds out Asher is back, he knows it will only be a matter of time before he demands Asher come to the prison to see him.
Moving means facing a buried past and truths long hidden, but staying in the city isn’t good for anyone, least of all Asher’s young nephew, Rory. It’s a hard road to face, filled with tough choices, and an old secret that just might provide more questions than answers.

Excerpt: It was a surreal feeling, to be driving into town in Chase’s old pickup, his brother’s old cowboy hat on the dash. He hadn’t had the heart to remove it, despite the pang of loss that shot through him each time he glanced to the right and saw it sitting there. Conner had asked him if he could move it, but Asher had shaken his head and said “Not yet,” grateful that his boyfriend had left it at that. The radio was still set to country, something Conner was getting used to and Asher was discovering how much he’d missed. The volume was on low so they could talk and Conner wouldn’t have to yell at him each time he wanted Asher to pull over.

It was amusing how often that was, but Asher discovered he didn’t mind. The things he could drive past without noticing drew Conner’s photographic eye and Asher found himself learning to appreciate them in a whole other way as Conner patiently explained lighting and shadows and f-stops to him. Conner had even offered to let him take a few photos to see how he liked it, but Asher had been too afraid of damaging the camera to accept. Such a small thing in his rough, fighter’s hands; he’d scoffed and told Conner he’d leave the picture taking to him.
Besides, the vision in his right eye wasn’t the greatest; too much damage over the years from fists trying to cave in the side of his face, or the cage gouging at the skin around it. He doubted he’d be able to capture anything like the amazing images Conner delighted in showing him night after night. He was happy to see Conner happy and settling in so well, though he was pretty sure today was going to be a bit of a challenge for him. They were on their way to a swap meet and livestock auction; a horse trailer was attached to the back of the truck and cages were in the truck bed, and a carefully drawn up list he and Morgan had spent hours compiling was tucked safely in his pocket.
Oh, wow…” Conner breathed, voice low, but filled with the excited edge Asher had gotten used to. Without even looking to see what Conner had spotted, he began to pull over, bringing the truck to rest on the crest of road beside the ditch. Conner leaned out the window, the shutter rapidly going off while Asher sat wondering why he hadn’t gotten out. It took a moment before Asher saw what had captured Conner’s attention: a flock of turkeys grazing in a recently harvested field. Asher watched as one of the birds shook itself and then opened its large tail feathers, giving Conner a gorgeous shot of its plumage.
When he was done, Conner turned back toward Asher, a smile of wonder on his face, and it was enough to make Asher’s stomach flutter, ’cause damn, his boyfriend was gorgeous and he was feeling pretty lucky as Conner reached out and guided a lock of hair back from his face.
Thank you,” Conner murmured, then leaned forward, brushing his lips across Asher’s. Asher slid his hand into Conner’s hair and deepened the kiss, not pulling back until both of them were breathless and gazing at one another with desire.
I like watching you work,” Asher blurted out. “The way the tip of your tongue peeks through your lips when you’re focused on capturing something, the way you move when you start looking for different angles, I just… I enjoy it.”
Conner’s face lit up and he captured Asher’s mouth in a kiss. “I was afraid you were going to get frustrated with all the stopping.”
I gotta be honest, I thought at first I would, but the more I watch how excited you are, and the more you share with me what you’re doing, the more interested I get. I’m not ever gonna understand all the art stuff you and Alexia do, but I’m learning to enjoy it just the same.”
Conner beamed, and Asher wished they could just cuddle up on the front seat of the van the way they cuddled in bed at night, taking turns being the big and little spoons, talking each other’s ears off until one of them fell asleep. He’d found a contentment he’d never thought possible in the short time they’d been together, and he felt as if he owed it all to Conner for accepting him, flaws and all.
We’d better get going,” he said at last, reluctant, but knowing that he and Conner had a lot of things they needed to accomplish that day. For a while they drove in silence, Asher humming along with the radio, the fall wind ruffling his hair through the open windows.
So, how does this whole swap-meet thing work, anyway?” Conner asked. “It can’t all be trading, unless that’s what the cages in the back are for.”
Asher chuckled. “No, though they could be, if we didn’t need them. Some people will trade outright—my old man used to, when we had an overabundance of something—but since we’re just starting out, we’ve got to buy whatever we can get a deal on.”
Why didn’t Morgan come?”
Asher’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. “He was gonna come, but I asked him to let me do it. Figured I needed to show my face in town sooner rather than later; was afraid if I didn’t, I’d keep making up excuses to hide at the ranch.”

Guitars and Choices is the sequel to Guitars and Cages, newly re-released on Amazon and Amazon KU for .99.
Guitars and Cages Blurb
Asher Logan is a bartender and a pretty wicked guitar player, when he isn’t wrecking his hands fighting in a cage. With a past he keeps hoping to outrun, Asher’s been on a downward spiral for longer than he can remember. When his sister-in-law leaves Rory, his eight-year-old nephew, in his care, Asher is forced into two things he’s never been good at: sobriety and responsibility. As he struggles to care for Rory, his own life begins to unravel.

When Asher’s brother, Alex, turns up, presenting as a girl and announcing her new name is Alexia, it further complicates matters, as does the arrival of his new neighbor, Conner. Both, in their own way, compel Asher to look at his own closely-guarded views on sexuality.

When the siblings’ older brother, Cole, reacts violently to Alexia, Asher is placed squarely in the middle of a family conflict which compels him to confront who he pretends to be versus who he really is.

Asher must choose who to trust and who to finally walk away from.
Guest post: Hi Aimee, thank you so much for having me on your blog today. I’m so excited to see Guitars and Cages back in print alongside the newly released sequel Guitars and Choices. Obviously, from the titles of the books, music plays an important part in the story and in the character’s lives. For Asher, it was always something he loved, a talent he was good at, though the damage he’s done to his hands over the years has now made it very difficult for him to play at the level he once did. Because of that, he’s at a point where he rarely plays anymore, and yet the guitars is always there, a link to happier moments.
There is a light about him when he plays, like he’s opening up and revealing a part of himself that he normally wouldn’t and that is one of the many reasons why Alexia and Morgan wish he’d do it more, because Conner has never seen it, and wants to understand that part of himself that Asher’s sort of put away.

Asher’s love of music has always been a direct reflection of my own and over the course of writing the novels, I’ve ended up with several playlists that sort of show the evolution of the characters. From the more angsty Nine Inch Nails and Zakk Wylde songs, to some of the more mellow, blusy John Moreland, the wide range of music shows the peaks and valleys of Asher’s life. He’s very much a complex character, with complex emotions, who more often than not, just wants to be accepted even if the things he’s got to do to earn praise and attention hurt him in the end. His journey is like a well-balanced rock and roll album, with its anthems and swan songs, it’s ballads and its brutally paced melodies. I hope readers will enjoy the ride as much as I continue to have in writing it. Guitars and Choices is by no means the end, we’re just going to be mixing things up a bit in book 3, Guitars and Canvases, and adding a bit more of Alexia’s tastes to the playlist.

Excerpt

D returned to Ash’s bed every day, sitting there as long as the nurses allowed him to. By now, Ash should’ve woken up, although no one knew how long it would take. They initially put him in a coma so he wouldn’t feel the pain, but by now he should’ve regained consciousness. Should have, but so far, there weren’t any signs.
D signed deeply and ran a hand through his hair and over his face. He needed to shave soon, although he preferred to not get a clean cut these days but just to crop his beard short. As long as he didn’t look like a bum, he liked to maintain the facial hair.
He stopped his mind from wandering. Tonight, he was going to leave again on a mission. Everything in him screamed to stay, not move from Ash’s bed, but he couldn’t. Firstly, it was his job. Secondly, he’d never actually spoken to Ash, except a couple of whispered words. Sitting by his bed every day, waiting for him to wake up bordered on stalking him. To stay home from an assignment to do so would cross that line. Definitely.
Damn. He’d been here for three days in a row, without any changes in Ash’s condition. He needed to get his life back under control, so he could move on.
Now, if only that’d be so easy.

The door opened and a nurse stuck her head inside. “I’m sorry, but you have to leave in a couple of minutes. Visiting time is over. He needs his rest now. You can come back tomorrow.” She smiled.
D nodded. “Thank you. Give me just a second, okay? Then I’ll be gone.”
“Of course.” She closed the door behind herself, leaving them alone.
D slowly extended his hand and ran the tips of his fingers over Ash’s white cheek as he whispered, “Please, if you can hear me, come back to us. You’re free now. We brought you to safety, and if you wake up now, you can start a new life.”
He sighed. It was useless. Either Ash would make it, or he wouldn’t. If the damage was too extensive, then good words wouldn’t help either. But D refused to think of it that way. Ash would make it through. Period.
With a last longing look to the bed, D stood, stretched his back, winced at the pain running through his arm, and stepped toward the door. He’d be back tomorrow to see how Ash was doing.
He bit back a yawn. First, he needed a nap, though. His phone beeped, alerting him of an incoming text. D pulled it out of his pocket and opened the message from Anthony: Alex made it through surgery and he and the baby are well.
He smiled. It would’ve devastated them all if Alex or the baby would’ve died. D sent a quick text to Sam, congratulating him, and then he left the intensive care unit of the small private clinic. Thank the heavens for Dr. Brown. Without him and his hospital for paranormals and vampires, neither Alex nor Ash would’ve had a chance of surviving the night.

Switching Wesley

The story is done, so how about an excerpt?

Connor watched Wesley go, barely listening to what his friend was saying. He noticed the tightness of Wesley’s shoulders, the strain in his step. Just as he had noticed the discomfort darkening Wesley’s features during the conversation. Had it been in relation to himself or to the discussion itself, Connor wasn’t sure. His excitement spurred; that was something he would have loved to know.
Connor.”
Lucas’ soft, serious call pulled Connor from his musing.
I’m sorry?”
Connor glanced at the door through where Wesley had retired, before looking back pointedly at his friend.
What can you tell me about him?”
Lucas held Connor’s eyes, the silence between them stretching. Eventually, he shook his head, sorrow darkening his features.
It’s not a good idea.”
I don’t know what you mean.” Connor offered him a grin, with a confidence he didn’t really feel.
Sure you don’t.” Lucas’ expression did not waiver. “He’s strictly a top. And a good one at that.”
Somehow, Connor didn’t doubt it. Perhaps Wesley was a bit uptight, but that didn’t make him any less skilled.

Blog Tour – Angel’s Feather by Alina Popescu

Angel’s Feather by Alina Popescu
Recently released gay science fiction novella Angel’s Feather, the first book in the Flyer Chronicles series.

Angel’s Feather Synopsis

How far would you go for the one you love? How much of yourself would you sacrifice?
Trapped on a decaying Earth and cut off from the rest of the Universe, humans are no longer allowed to leave their planet. Break this one law and you die: a penalty enforced by flyers, aliens who look like angels of long-lost religions. Michael, the flyers’ leader, is the Punisher who carries out every public execution.
Adam, a young human with near-perfect memory, is committed to rebuilding Earth and a true believer in the flyers’ dominion. While Adam’s support for flyers isn’t a secret, his deep love for Michael is. Not even Michael knows, for his kind never take human lovers, and to Adam, they are too far above him to reach.
In his broken and unwelcoming world, Adam’s love can only lead to pain, loss, and disaster. Yet there is no force in the huge expanse of stars and galaxies that can stop Adam from following Michael to the end of existence. Not even Adam’s own beliefs.

Excerpt:

Not long after our departure, Michael nudged me and told me to look at our destination. He pointed to an old building, half of it in ruins, the other still standing. It was built on the side of a mountain, on some sort of plateau overlooking the valley beneath. I imagined it allowed for glorious views back when it was still in use. Two large windows on one of the upper levels were brightly lit, and I could tell it was a room people used to live in.
“What is it?” I asked, digging my fingers into his skin as we got closer and I saw the large bed in the middle of the room bathed in golden light.
“It used to be a hotel, a very luxurious one, I’m told. The rich and famous used to come here.”
I choked on my own saliva, remembering all the hotel rooms with rose petals I’d read about or seen in movies. This was a date, or something close to it. And Michael seemed to have big plans for it.
He swerved and circled the building until he found a large enough opening.  He landed with such grace, it made my breath hitch. I wobbled a little when he released me, and he steadied me, a playful smirk on his lips. I got all flustered and blushed furiously, turning away from him to hide it. Michael caught my hips before I could move too far. He pressed his body flush against mine and kissed the side of my neck.
“You make my heart beat faster when you blush like that,” he said hoarsely, and I could feel him hardening. I leaned against him, reaching behind to grip his waist. “Walk, Adam. I think we should hurry to the room I’ve prepared.”
Michael pushed me further without releasing me from the embrace, and we both stumbled along the dark, dusty hallway until we reached the one door with light peeking from under it. He pushed it open and I was greeted by the most beautiful sight.

Review:

I have to admit I was familiar with the idea behind the story and I had been waiting for it for about two year. I was not disappointed. I just love the end result, so much that the Flyer Chronicles might be my new favorite series.
The post-apocalyptic world is so believable I had to go out to check my beloved city is still here, because, judging by how mankind is going, a future such as the one described in Alina's Angel's Feather is entirely possible. Here, there are no more cities or large settlements, there are only remnants of once great civilizations which humans are trying to recycle. Just like the tractor Adam is rebuilding.
Adam is in an interesting character. He can see beyond the simple realities of the day to day life and understands that rules are in place for a reason. In fact, there is just one rule: don't leave the planet, set for their own safety as much as for the safety of the entire universe, which I totally get. The breaking of this, is punished by death by the flyers enforcers, a race of aliens in the shape on men with wings, and especially by their leader, Michael.
While there are romantic elements to the story, it's not a romance per se. Adam and Michael do get together, but they do not end up together. The book is split into pre and -post Michael. The pre-Michael is sweet and full of hope, despite the destroyed world they live in, while the post-Michael one is dark and ansgty. Alina captures perfectly the switch in Adam's mind and personality when Michael leaves. His action, even his callousness toward the deaths his fellow men, is perfectly relatable.
I hope that in the next installment to see more of Michael's world, and perhaps, to find a way for the men and the flyers to live in peace and to evolve together. Wishful thinking, I know, but I love Adam and this world so much!!!
