Save a life!

I am in shock now. I’ve just stumbled across a video about a cat being rescued from a cement grave. Some had stuck the poor thing in a pipe and poured concrete on her, leaving her to die a painful death. She lived because a kind soul freed her from her prison, but I cannot understand how anyone could torture a poor cat like that. It makes me so sad and furious. I hope there’s a special place in hell for people like that.
Every once in a while, I come across articles and videos like that and for days after that I feel sick inside. I have saved my share of animals in my life, sparrows, pigeons, kittens, rabbits, lizzards or even mice….I've even tried to rescue most of they animal my cats bring me as offerings. I’ve managed to save most of them, but some of them had little chance from the beginning. I’ve cried for each death and been grateful for those who lived. And everytime I wish I could have more. If I'd save one bird I'd wish there were too. That's not always possible and it's something I have to live with.
I cannot picture my life without animals in it. My house is a mess at times, my new couch looks like it seen (much) better days, but when I come home from a long day at work and they welcome me at the door, purring and rubbing against me, none of that matters. They make my life better on so many ways.
Please, if you get the chance, save a life! We can’t save them all, but every single one counts, no matter how small.

The joys of owning cats...

I have five cats. Three adults (one male and two females) and two 4 month old kittens I'm hoping to give for adoption. At 8 10 this morning, my girls insisted I let them outside to play and seeing as I had 40 more minutes before having to leave for work, I complied, leaving the porch door open. You see where this is going, right?

At 8 45, I went the bedroom to get dressed and noted the male cat reaching for something behind the clothes hamper. On a closer look, I realized that one of my girls was doing the same thing on the other side of the hamper. Curious, I pulled the hamper from its place, and there it was, in whole its glory, a big mouse. Or, a small rat, judging but its size.

Now imagine me screaming like a banshee, the cats, four of them, converging on the mouse, chasing it through the bedroom, through the closet and moving through the house to the open kitchen. And despite the number of cats, the mouse escaped, somewhere in the living room.

I had to drag the desk, the few boxes I had next to it, some books and I still couldn't find the intruder. Luckily, I don't have much furniture. So, I left all 5 cats in the living room with the mouse, firmly requesting they present me with a corpse upon my return.

Okay, I understand them bringing me gifts, but if it has to be mice, is it too much to ask for them to be dead?

Blurb: A loner by nature, the several-centuries-old vampire, Darien, has everything under control. He has his friend and long-time lover, Zephyr the incubus, and he is the master of his own territory. But then, dead bodies are left in a silent challenge for him to find and though he suspects to be the work of a vampire, he has no proof. Just when he thinks that nothing else could go wrong, he meets Adam, the newborn vampire. Trying to protect him, Darien is dragged in the old catacombs where he has to face an old enemy and the power behind her.
Now everything becomes a race against time for Adam and Zephyr rushing to get to Darien, painfully aware that the decisions they make and the people they trust could mean the difference between life and death for them or Darien.

Kittens looking for a loving home

When I first started this blog, it was meant to be strictly business. As you can see, that ship has sailed, so here it is.

Two kittens are looking for a home. Brother and sister, they about 3 month old. They are healthy and clean and know how to use the litter box. They play all day and sleep all night (mostly) and they keep the trouble making to a minimum. They are both very affectionate and purr as soon as you touch them.
The girl is a calico with beautiful colors and the male is black with a black pattern.

So, if you are in Bucharest and you want one or even two fur balls to love you unconditionally, please contact me.

Bucharest International Air Show 2013 – The show that literally lit up the sky

The Romanian Air club celebrated its 90 years of existence with a great show and as fascinated by airplanes, history and military as I am, I couldn’t miss it.

The festivities were well organized and the issues with the power company did nothing to spoil the fun of the spectators. The food, Romanian mititei and tap beer, was good and the prices remained mostly accessible. Even nature cooperated, the dark cumuli offering a superb background for the twilight flights. Only the wind acted up at the end, posing some troubles to the skydivers and the world gliding champion, Luca Bertossio.

As for the participants, there’s no word strong enough to convey their skill and talent. We were entertained by sky divers, gliders, acrobatic planes, decommissioned fighting planes now restored to their former glory. The Romanian Air Club, the Romanian Hawks, the Baltic Bees, Jurgis Kairys, the Polish Eagles Foundation, the Flying Bulls, Luca Bertossio, the Yakkers… The twilight show proved to be even more entertaining than the morning one, the pilots coming up one after another in a reel of speed and adrenaline, culminating with an amazing pyrotechnic demonstration from Jurgis Kairys and the Yakkers.

How I longed to be up there with them, dancing in the sky, bursting from the clouds like an arrow…. Watching them made me regret, and not for the first time in my adult life, that I choose finance over military school. But perhaps one day I’ll get my pilot license and I’ll  be one of the lucky fews writing history in the sky.
